* PASSIVE TRANSPORTATION renders units as passengers of the transportation infrastructure.

  • Rivers, Canals, Railroads, and MagLevs are passive transportation.
  • Passive transportation gives units a movement range independent of the unit's move rate.
  • All units use the same transportation at the same speed, giving the same range.
    • This includes injured units.

  • Roads
    • Roads are the only unchanged transportation infra in MP2E.
  • Rivers
    • Rivers are now Passive Transportation
      • Real ships aren't treated as passive passengers when on rivers.
    • Rivers have a range of 8. (Compensates lack of diagonal movement to help equalize with roads.)
    • Rivers are superior for evacuating injured units from combat areas.
    • Rivers are superior for Foot units compared to MP2D, but inferior for Mounted units.
    • Rivers are Restricted Crossing. In enemy lands:
      • Stepping from a non-river tile to a river tile, uses all moves.
      • Stepping from a river tile to a non-river tile, uses all moves.
      • Rivers have no restrictions while units remain traveling upon them.
  • Canals
    • Real ships aren't treated as passive passengers when on canals.
    • Canals are now like Rivers in all respects, with 3 exceptions:
      • No trade bonus
      • No defense bonus
      • Modern ships can use canals.
  • Railroads
    • Railroads are now Passive Transportation
    • Railroads are MORE effective for Foot units than in MP2D, and LESS effective for Mounted and Motor units.
      • Superior for evacuating injured units from non-enemy combat areas.
      • Railroads are Restricted Infra: they cannot be used in enemy lands.
  • MagLevs are LESS effective for all units in MP2E -- they no longer have infinite movement.
    • MagLevs are Passive Transportation
    • Superior for evacuating injured units from non-enemy combat areas.
    • MagLevs are Restricted Infra: they cannot be used in enemy lands.
  • Highways allow Motor units to maintain the best mobility in the game.
    • Foots units experience a significant increase in effectiveness: equal to Mounted units on Roads.
    • Mounted units can travel almost as far as on a Railroad (24 vs. 28)
    • Motor units can travel farther than on a Railroad (36 vs. 28)
    • For all game mechanics (trade bonuses, etc.), Highways are treated as identical to Roads
